Queer safety online is not a feature. It is the reason Shanty exists. On this page we show you exactly how we protect the people who trust us — what we do, what we don’t do, and what we ask of you in return.
If anything on Shanty ever makes you feel unsafe, tell us. admin@shanty.lgbt

You decide who can see your profile. Public, community-only, or visible only to people you have connected with. You can switch between these any time. Your photos, your bio, your pronouns, your location — all of it is opt-in and adjustable, not default-public.
If you are not ready to show yourself, you don't have to. Anonymous mode lets you read, post, and reply without a public profile. When you are ready for more visibility, you change a setting. Nothing else.
Our moderators are real people. Our community guidelines are written in plain language, not legalese. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours for most cases, faster for safety-critical ones. Actions taken on reports are visible to the reporter.
Every profile, post, and conversation has a one-tap report. You can report for harassment, hate, impersonation, unwanted contact, or anything that makes you feel unsafe. You never have to explain yourself in more words than you choose.
The same safety you want, extend to others. Misgendering, outing, harassment, hate, and impersonation are not tolerated. Read our Community Guidelines — they take two minutes and they are the reason Shanty stays what it is.
